Custom Manufacturing / Purchasing guide
An insert requirement should identify the insert itself, its position, the mating hardware and how the completed interface will be accepted. “Add metal inserts” is not a complete instruction. Treat the insert as a controlled component within an assembly and resolve its details before the composite part is released for manufacture.

Identify the inserted component
Provide a part reference or drawing for the insert and specify the applicable material and finish requirements. Show its orientation and relationship to the visible surfaces. If the supplier is asked to propose an insert, identify the interface and service requirements it must address.
Review the installed position
Dimension the features that locate the insert and the surfaces used to check them. Show the mating component when it helps explain alignment. Ask how the insert will be held in position during manufacture or assembly and how the finished location will be verified.
Keep verification explicit
Define the dimensional, fit or other application-specific checks required by the design. A threaded fastener turning into an insert confirms only part of the interface. Keep the insert specification and acceptance records connected to the finished-part revision so a change of insert does not pass unnoticed on a reorder.

Frequently asked questions
Can any similar insert be substituted?
Review substitutions against the controlled interface and approval requirements.
Is thread engagement alone sufficient inspection?
It may be one check, but it does not replace the complete acceptance plan for position and intended function.
Discuss your carbon fiber component
Send your drawing revision, intended application, quantity and acceptance requirements to Litian Yunde for a project review.
