Carbon Fiber UAV Arm Tubes: Specifying the End Interfaces

Application Engineering / Purchasing guide

At a glance

For a UAV arm tube, the end interfaces are as important to the enquiry as the tube length. Show the connection to the central frame and the motor or end assembly, including alignment and hardware access. Treat the tube as one component of the engineered airframe rather than selecting it from diameter alone.

Concept illustration; dimensions and configuration are defined by the project drawing.

Define both connections

Provide sections or mating drawings for each end. Identify clamps, sleeves, inserts and attachment holes where used. State the required relationship between the ends, including any clocking or alignment requirement. A tube with apparently identical ends can still have an orientation that matters in the complete assembly.

Document the design requirements

Give the supplier the dimensions and construction requirements established by the responsible designer. If a construction recommendation is requested, supply the relevant operating and design inputs and agree how the proposal will be verified. Do not transfer performance data from another arm solely because it looks similar.

Accept the component and the assembly

Separate tube-dimensional checks from the checks required on the assembled arm. Record the hardware, mating parts and drawing revisions used for approval. Keep operational qualification outside the scope of a simple product photograph or catalogue description.

Frequently asked questions

Is arm length enough for a quotation?

It may support an early estimate, but the end interfaces and construction requirements are needed for a meaningful production scope.

Can a catalogue image establish payload capacity?

No. Capacity needs the applicable design and verification evidence for the completed system.
