Tubes & Interfaces / Purchasing guide
A tube-joint enquiry needs more than the name of an adhesive or fastener. Show the overlapping geometry, mating material, assembly access and the loads or service conditions the design must address. Treat the joint as an assembly design problem and ask for a documented review of the proposed interface.
Concept illustration; dimensions and configuration are defined by the project drawing.
Provide a section through the joint
Show the tube, insert or sleeve and the intended engagement region. Identify the surfaces that contact each other and any required clearance. Explain how the assembly is located while it is joined. Without this information, a supplier may quote components that look suitable individually but do not produce the intended assembly.
Separate proposal from approval
If you want the supplier to suggest a joining approach, make that request explicit and provide the operating requirements. Record who approves the final design and how it will be verified. Do not convert a general example of a tube joint into a promise that the same arrangement suits every load case.
Request the assembly deliverables
Clarify whether you need loose parts, a preassembled sample or a production assembly. Ask which dimensions will be inspected before and after joining. Include any access, appearance and handling requirements, and identify the documents or tests required to accept the joint for its intended use.
Information to include in your enquiry
| Review item | Information to provide |
|---|---|
| Geometry | Overlap, mating surfaces and assembly section |
| Materials | Tube and mating-component definitions |
| Responsibility | Who proposes, approves and validates the joint |
| Delivery | Loose components or inspected assembly |

Frequently asked questions
Can a generic overlap length be used?
Do not assume a universal value. The joint must be reviewed against its materials, geometry and design requirements.
Does a successful fit check prove joint performance?
It confirms fit under the checked conditions. Performance requires the relevant agreed verification.
